Channel-billed cuckoo

We had a wonderful, relaxing Sunday afternoon at Brendan and Eva. Had a good swim at their backyard beach, enyoyed delicious barbecued ribs, played with adorable little Ella - and to top things off, saw a new bird species from their balcony - a channel billed cuckoo. In fact, we saw two mating. Very exciting. Thanks Eva and Brendan. That's what you call true hospitality!

Canon EF 500 F4

This lens was my greatest ever extravagance. I lusted after it for months, reading all the reviews. I bought it in a massive rush of dopamine. It took sublime photos of birds, but was so bulky and heavy, I hardly used it.  I ended up selling it to my photography friend, Craig, but obviously for less than I paid for it.

Birding at Bicentennial Park with my new 500 mm F4 lens

I had a successful morning of birding at the Sydney Olympic Park. Some of the land has been reclaimed including Belverdere Lake (part of Bicentennial Park). I got to take some nice pictures (see below) and also saw three new bird species: Chestnut Teal, Brown Honeyeater and Red Whiskered Bulbul.

Watching "Cocolat" at the Sydney Open Air Festival

We watched "Chocolat" under the stars at the Sydney Open Air Festival. What a great movie! Ally looked after baby Lucas the entire movie, much to mum Claudia's delight.

Kerry at a work function for the Melbourne Cup. Check out the fascinator in her hair. And notice how she stands out in red! Well done Kerry...

Sunday at Royal National Park

I went to the Royal National Park to search for Lyrebird and Satin Bowerbird. Much to my excitement, I saw both! Unfortunately I did not get a photo of the Lyrebird. An excuse to go back. The Royal National Park, established in 1879, is the second oldest national park in the world after Yellowstone in the USA. It is enormous so I focused my attentions on the lush Wattle Forest, a beautiful tranquil belt of forest along the Hacking River.
