A lovely albeit rather warm photography outing to iconic Paddy's Market and Darling Harbour with my Photography Meetup. After a lovely lunch of beef stir fry and the best watermelon frappe ever, I walked to the metro at Barangaroo.

Exploring the new Metro in Sydney
An exciting photography outing with Photography Meetup to try out the new metro which recently opened a few weeks ago. It is a groundbreaking development for the city and seriously impressive in its scale. We travelled from Central to Martin Place and then Victoria Cross (North Sydney), then back to Barangaroo and Garigal (Town Hall).
Here are some fascinating facts about this impressive project:
- The new metro is fully automated, with driverless trains that operate using advanced technology. It is the first of its kind in Australia.
- The metro can reach speeds of up to 100 km/h, allowing commuters to travel between key areas quickly. For example, the journey from Chatswood to Sydenham takes just 22 minutes, and the city centre to North Sydney takes only 3 minutes.
- Architecturally Stunning Stations: The metro features architecturally designed stations, many of which reflect the local culture and history, making them both functional and visually appealing.
- Once fully integrated, the metro network will increase Sydney’s rail capacity significantly. The system can handle up to 40,000 passengers per hour, compared to the 24,000 that the suburban rail system can currently accommodate.
- This is just the beginning for Sydney Metro. By 2030, the network will cover 113 kilometers with 46 stations, including new lines to Western Sydney and the new airport.
- This project is being heralded as one of the most significant transport developments in Sydney since the opening of the Harbour Bridge in 1932.
