We woke up very early to climb Kalapathar for close views of Everest. Unfortunately Gavin, Mo and Russell all felt too exhausted to go after a bad night due to the high altitude. So it was just Rajesh and me. I felt good, having slept well, and felt strangely untired climbing up the steep hill, having now perfected the super slow, methodical process of one step at a time. As we climbed, the views of peaks on all sides was spectacular. Of course, the highlight was Everest which is what we had come to see. The sun was rising over her peak and the sight was mesmerising. It felt incredibly surreal being so close to the highest mountain on earth.
Rajesh got tired half way up and decided to wait while Mathbar and I went on ahead a bit. You could say I was the last man standing. Not bad for a 52 year old!
